Heatstroke is a serious and life threatening condition that occurs more frequently when the weather is hot and humid.  Because dogs and cats do not sweat like humans, they can become overheated easily. Heatstroke is more likely to occur under the following conditions:

(1) There is limited shade and cool water
(2) Pets are left in vehicles
(3) Pets are exercised in hot/humid conditions *Beware that the pads of their paws can easily burn on hot concrete or asphalt. If you cannot walk comfortably barefooted on these surfaces neither can your pet!
(4) Older pets
(5) Pets with health conditions
(6) Short nose breeds such as bulldogs, pugs, frenchies etc. these breeds have difficulty eliminating heat because their respiratory tract is already compromised by its conformation.

Keep your pets cool, preferably inside. Provide access to fresh cool water at all times. Limit exercise on hot/humid days and never leave your pet in a vehicle, even if it is parked in the shade.
